A poster of your 911, not someone else's

There are thousands of 911 posters. Almost none of them are of your car: your color, your wheels, your Targa bar, your ducktail or whale tail, the way you spec'd it or the way it was when you found it. That is the only 911 poster we make.

75 owners have ordered one so far, 52 in the US and the rest mostly in the Netherlands and Belgium, where the 911 is our most ordered car. Here is what they drive, where they put it, and how to photograph yours.

Which 911s owners order

About four in ten are air-cooled. That means early long-hood cars, 911 SCs and Carrera 3.2s, a 930 Turbo, a Speedster, and a steady run of 964s and 993s. The water-cooled side is spread almost evenly over the 996, 997, 991 and 992.

Targas are over-represented. Owners who have one want the bar and the roof panel exactly right, and they tend to say so in the notes. We have also done GT3 RS cars, both 991 and 992.

§ 03

Where owners put their 911

Over a quarter describe their own scene. Alpine passes come up a lot: the Furka with its old hotel, the Sella pass in fall, the Stelvio. So do Burgundy vineyards, Lake Huron, Mount Rainier, the Texas Hill Country and a snowy Christmas road.

From the ready-made scenes, the Pacific Coast Highway leads, then the Côte d'Azur, the Tail of the Dragon and Watkins Glen. A few owners pick the historic racing roads, the Targa Florio and the Mille Miglia, which suits a car that raced on both.

§ 04

How to photograph a 911 for a poster

The 911 is all silhouette, so the side profile and the rear three-quarter matter more than on most cars. Shoot from the rear three-quarter at about knee height. It shows the roofline sloping into the engine lid, the hips and the tail, which is where a 964, a 993 and a 996 look most different.

If you prefer the front, stand at the front three-quarter and crouch. Keep the headlights in frame: round on air-cooled cars, the fried-egg shape on a 996, and the four-point LEDs on a 991.2 or 992 tell the years apart instantly.

Tell us the spoiler (ducktail, whale tail, tea tray, none), the wheels (Fuchs, Cup, Turbo twists) and whether a Targa or Cabriolet should be open. Leave the plate on: we can remove it.

Formats and prices

911 owners frame more than most. 39 of 75 chose the fine-art print, 21 went framed and 15 chose canvas, seven of those in a float frame. The 12 x 16 in size is first, 16 x 20 in a close second.

Every size comes portrait or landscape. US shipping is free and a digital copy comes with every physical print.
