Cat memorial gifts for a loss that's quieter than people think
Losing a cat is a quiet kind of loss. There is no walk to skip, no lead by the door. Instead it's the empty chair in the sun, the lap that stays free in the evening, the sound of the cat flap that doesn't come. People around the owner often don't notice, which makes a gift that does notice matter more.
Most memorial gift lists are written for dogs. These ideas are for cats: where they lived, what they left behind, and what an owner tends to keep.

10 cat memorial gift ideas
From the most personal to the simplest. Prices vary, so we only give a range where we know it.
- 01$59–$449
A portrait of the cat in their favorite spot
$59–$449
Cats have a place: the window seat, the back of the sofa, the warm patch on the stairs. One of our scenes is exactly that, a deep window seat with sun pouring in, and you can also describe their own spot in your words. From one photo, with their name and years beneath. The design is free to see before you pay.

A small box or locket for a whisker
varies
Cats shed whiskers, and many owners have kept one without telling anyone. A tiny glass vial, a locket or a keepsake box gives it a place.
- 03varies
Catmint or cat grass for the garden
varies
A plant the cat would have rolled in. It flowers through summer and comes back every year.
- 04any amount
A donation to a cat rescue or TNR group
any amount
Cat rescues and trap-neuter-return programs run on small donations. A gift in the cat's name fits any budget.
- 05varies
A paw print impression
varies
Clay or ink, often offered by the clinic or crematory. It has to be made before cremation or burial, so it is mostly something the owner arranges.
- 06varies
A shadow box for the collar and bell
varies
A cat collar is small and easy to lose in a drawer. A deep frame keeps it with a photo or a small print.
- 07varies
An engraved garden stone
varies
For a cat buried at home, or simply for the spot in the garden where they sat.
- 08varies
An urn or keepsake box
varies
If the cat was cremated. A small wooden or ceramic box with the name. Best chosen with the owner.
- 09varies
A name charm or pendant
varies
Small, worn every day, and not a statement to anyone else.
- 10varies
A handwritten card
varies
With the cat's name and one specific memory. Cat owners often hear less sympathy than dog owners, so a card counts.
§ 02
Why a portrait works so well for a cat
Cats are hard to photograph and easy to get wrong. A tabby has an M on its forehead and a pattern that runs differently on each side. A calico's patches are a map no other cat shares. Odd-colored eyes sit on their own sides. We keep each marking where it is in the photo, never mirrored and never tidied into something neater than the cat was, and a person checks it against the photo before it prints.
The Field Study style suits a cat especially well: a plate from an old natural-history atlas, with the cat's name in copperplate script and Felis catus beneath. Studio Minimal is quieter still, ink and watercolor on white. If they shared the house with a dog or another cat, up to four animals fit on one sheet, each from its own photo, at no extra cost.

§ 03
Getting a good photo of a cat that's gone
Cat photos are often taken in dim rooms, at night, from above. Look for the one where the face is sharp and the coat colors look true, even if the cat is mid-yawn or half out of frame. A photo of just the head is enough; the body follows from the coat and build. A phone photo of an old paper print works too.
If a detail is lost in the photo, say it in words after you see the design: ‘her left front paw was white’, ‘his eyes were more green than yellow’. You can change the free design up to five times, and after you order, edits are unlimited until you approve the full-size proof.
§ 04
What it costs, and when it arrives
A portrait starts at $59 for a 12 × 16 in fine-art print. Canvas is $99–$249, framed prints $119–$329. US shipping is free and tracked. After you approve, prints and frames are made in 2–3 business days and usually arrive within 3–5 business days. There is no need to hurry any of it.
Questions
What do you give someone whose cat died?
A card that uses the cat's name and a real memory, and, for someone close, something that keeps the cat present: a portrait in their favorite spot, catmint for the garden, or a donation to a cat rescue in their name.
Can you make a memorial portrait from an old cat photo?
Yes. Use the sharpest photo you have, even if it is old or only shows the head. A phone photo of a paper print works. You see the design free before you decide.
Can the cat be shown with our dog?
Yes. Up to four animals fit on one print, each from its own photo, in one scene and one light. Each keeps its true size, so the cat stays cat-sized next to the dog.
